Elder Serve

ElderServe is Louisville's largest non-profit dedicated to senior services

This documentary photo essay captures the daily life inside ElderServe, a day center for older adults in Louisville, Kentucky. Here, neighbors come together to take part in activities, share meals, and maintain the connections that strengthen a community.

Over several days, I followed the center’s rhythms and gatherings with my camera: bingo afternoons filled with laughter, yoga and tai chi classes, group exercise sessions, shared lunches, and quiet moments of conversation. These scenes reveal ElderServe’s role as a meeting place that counters isolation, offers a safe environment, and fosters a sense of belonging.

In a context where support for such initiatives is often limited, ElderServe’s work becomes essential. Sustained through donations, some public funding, and the daily commitment of its staff and volunteers, the center stands as a testament to how community life and collaboration can thrive even with modest resources.

This project was created for a social media campaign for ElderServe, aiming to highlight its activities and its role in the everyday life of the neighborhood.
